May 13, 1967: Actress Lesley Ann Warren marries hairdresser Jon Peters at the Sahara. They divorce 10 years later and one son later, after he becomes an obnoxious and widely detested Hollywood mogul and takes up with Barbra Streisand.

 May 14, 2011: Oscar: A Good Man, an original play based on the life of Mayor Oscar Goodman, opens a three-week run in Las Vegas. The comedy, which includes scenes of Las Vegas history projected on a big screen, gets mixed reviews.

May 15, 1905: Although Indians, Mormons and other had lived in the area for many years, the city of Las Vegas is officially founded. Four years later it becomes the seat of Clark County, named for mining magnate William Clark.

May 16, 1996: Singer/impressionist Danny Gans makes his Vegas debut at the Stratosphere. The former minor league baseball player quickly becomes one of the Strip’s biggest stars before dying suddenly in 2009.

 May 17, 2010: The day after Rima Fakih is crowned Miss USA at Planet Hollywood, raunchy videos surface of her on a stripper pole. But they’re explained away as being from a fitness class convened by a Detroit radio station for a contest, and Rima keeps her title.

 May 18, 2011: Crystal Harris, 25, spends what was to be her wedding day to Hugh Hefner hosting a pool party at MGM Grand’s Wet Republic. She called off the marriage to the 85-year-old Hefner several days earlier, prompting Playboy to rename its pictorial of her “Runaway Bride.”

 May 19, 2011: Doug Hutchison, 51-year actor known for roles in Lost and The Green Mile, is granted a marriage license in Las Vegas to marry 16-year-old singer/model Courtney Stodden. They tie the knot the next day at Chapel of the Flowers. It’s legal because her mom Krista grants permission.

 May 20,1964: Viva Las Vegas, starring Elvis Presley as a race-car driver who turns to singing to pay for a new engine and hooks up with Ann Margaret along the way, debuts in theaters. Made for about $1 million, it grosses $9.5 million worldwide and is regarded as one of Elvis’ best movies.
